1.

SUBJECTIVE LIGHTING ANALYSIS

This project looks closely at how lighting shapes the way we experience a retail space. I studied the existing lighting conditions inside the Pilgrim Clothing section at Westfield Myer, Sydney, focusing on how light affects product visibility, mood, movement, and brand perception. Through on-site observation, sketches, and lighting analysis, I identified gaps in accent lighting, glare control, and fixture consistency. The project concludes with practical lighting recommendations aimed at improving visual comfort, highlighting merchandise, and creating a stronger connection between lighting and brand identity.

2.

LIGHTING ANALYSIS REDFERN STATION

This group project reimagines the lighting of a heritage public space at Redfern Station, balancing safety, functionality, and architectural character. I worked on analysing existing lighting conditions and developing a layered lighting strategy that enhances navigation, improves night-time visibility, and highlights key Victorian architectural elements. The proposal introduces a warm, energy-efficient lighting concept that respects the station’s heritage while making the concourse feel safer, more legible, and welcoming for daily commuters. The project includes lighting concepts, renders, luminaire selection, and coordinated electrical layouts.

3.

LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS

This project compares the long-term environmental impact of road and rail infrastructure using a life cycle assessment approach. I analysed greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and land consumption across both construction and operational phases using input–output modelling. The study highlights how different infrastructure choices shift environmental impact across energy use, materials, and resources over time. It strengthened my understanding of sustainability beyond design visuals, looking at systems, data, and long-term consequences that inform responsible planning and decision-making.

4.

JACARANDA FESTIVAL

This project explores how lighting can enhance a seasonal, emotional experience rather than overpower it. Designed for the Jacaranda Festival in Grafton, the concept takes cues from the natural purple bloom of the trees and the soft, organic forms found in nature. Circular LED ring lights are used to gently wrap around tree trunks and float through the landscape, creating a sense of rhythm and movement after dark. Reflections across the pond and bridge extend the experience, turning the park into an immersive nighttime destination while keeping the intervention minimal and respectful to its natural setting.

5.

HIGH PERFORMANCE FACADE

This assignment focuses on understanding how an iconic facade performs when placed in a completely different climate. Starting with a detailed analysis of the Bahrain World Trade Centre’s existing curtain wall system, the project rethinks the facade for Sydney’s temperate and coastal conditions. The redesign prioritises thermal comfort, daylight control, and energy efficiency through material selection, shading strategies, insulation, and glazing performance. Technical detailing, climate comparison, and NCC compliance form the backbone of this project, bridging architectural intent with buildable, climate-responsive design.

6.

GALLERY LIGHTING DESIGN

This project is a full lighting design proposal for the Brett Whiteley Studio, focused on balancing artwork presentation, spatial experience, and functional needs. The lighting strategy layers ambient, accent, and task lighting to support both gallery viewing and studio work without visual fatigue. Curved track lighting, recessed fixtures, and integrated strip lighting are carefully coordinated with ceiling forms and circulation paths. The project includes detailed drawings, lighting controls, luminaire schedules, NCC compliance checks, and DIALux simulations to validate performance and visual comfort.

7.

BUILDING ECONOMICS

This project examines how a heritage academic building can be upgraded to perform better, economically, environmentally, and functionally, without losing its architectural character. Using the Madsen Building at the University of Sydney as a case study, I analysed its current spatial efficiency, building systems, energy use, and long-term operational costs. Through on-site observation, case study comparisons, and economic analysis, the project identifies key gaps in accessibility, energy efficiency, and space utilisation. The proposal outlines practical retrofit strategies such as improved lighting systems, smarter HVAC solutions, better use of underutilised courtyards, and enhanced accessibility, aimed at increasing the building’s usability, sustainability, and long-term value while respecting its heritage fabric.

8.

ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINTS & IO ANALYSIS

This project analyses the carbon footprint of an international student living in the City of Ryde, using consumption-based input–output modelling. By breaking down emissions from food, energy, transport, and services, the study identifies key lifestyle and system-level drivers of carbon impact and proposes practical actions for both individuals and local councils to support lower-emission living.

Identity in Progress

Phase I

Sardar Patel university , Gujarat , India.

MY BACHELOR'S YEAR · INDIA

“A chapter of growth: From learning to creating, from student to designer.”

Four formative years studying Interior Design built a strong foundation for me in understanding how spaces shape emotions, behavior, and everyday life. Late-night studio work, critiques, and constant iteration defined this phase.

Phase II

Shalini Pereira Design Associates (SPDA), Gurugram, India.

Interior Designer · Professional Journey

“Technical mastery, client insight, and problem-solving—these years shaped confident responsibility.”

Three years of professional experience grounded my creativity in reality and navigating client briefs, budgets, tight timelines, and flawless execution. I collaborated across diverse residential and commercial projects, translating abstract ideas into practical, buildable solutions. Along the way, I honed technical skills, strengthened client communication, and learned to balance innovation with real-world constraints, turning concepts into meaningful experiences.

Phase III · A NEW CHAPTER

University of Sydney (USYD), Australia.

SYDNEY

“From streets to coastlines, the city taught me to see design in everything.”

Moving to Sydney for a Master’s in Architectural Science opened up new ways of thinking—exploring lighting, sustainability, and human-centric design at an advanced level. Beyond academics, the city itself became a classroom: streets, museums, cafés, retail environments, and coastlines shaped design sensitivity.

Graduating marked the culmination of years of learning, growth, and persistence, rooted in sustainable and human-centric design values—ready to combine experience, education, and intent into meaningful design work.

Phase IV

Pilgrim Clothing, Warringah, Sydney.
